Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing is an alternative approach to the process of renegotiating trauma and treating PTSD. Peter Levine developed this method and has worked in the field of stress and trauma for over 40 years.

I found SE (Somatic Experiencing) over 20 years ago when I was in my 20’s and feeling a tremendous about of shame about my body and was making unhealthy choices that took me further away from happiness, meaning and connection.

As a dancer in college I remember loving to be moving in the studio because it took my mind off of all the rattling thoughts that induced pain and turmoil. I would then sit down and speak with a therapist, yet nothing seemed to change or shift.

I decided to embark on a healing journey that would include methods that understood the mindbody connection. On that journey I stumbled upon ecstatic dance, yoga and Somatic Experiencing along with other movement therapies.

SE Sessions

In SE sessions you will renegotiate your trauma through a process that works with your nervous system. We will sit together as you feel into your inner felt sense and report back what you are noticing. Based on what I am seeing such as your gestures, breath and involuntary movements that might give me clues about your inner state I will curiously inquire and offer suggestions and pathways of exploration. In this way we will uncover your inner resources and establish a more resilient nervous system so that you may develop a greater capacity to integrate.


A regulated nervous system is one that is able to respond spontaneously and appropriately to the stimuli of the outerworld and inner felt sense. Our bodies hold great wisdom and speak to us clearly through image, emotion and sensation. It is our work to learn to listen, slow down and feel our way through it all.
